Rooms Apothecary was born from Elizabeth Schmidt’s passion for herbs, all things plant-based, and ethical beauty practices. Rooms is for everyone, including all identities and skin types. Raised in the Northern suburbs of Chicago by a mother that spent most of her free time in the garden, Elizabeth started learning about herbs at a very early age. Her fascination with plants and their healing powers continued, and she began reading books on the benefits of herbs.

 

Elizabeth moved from Chicago to San Diego in 2001, embarking on a new adventure to the beautiful west coast. It was there that she discovered the Self Heal School of Herbal Studies and Healing in Ocean Beach. Elizabeth studied under Jane Richmond and John Finch, learning herbal medicine and holistic nutrition. Thanks to her instructors’ guidance and support, Elizabeth launched her first herbal skincare line, called Earth Sense. Then an experimental skincare brand, Elizabeth played with different recipes, testing formulas and gathering helpful friends’ feedback. 

Throughout her time living in California, Elizabeth continued to seek and explore herbal remedies, organic skincare brands, and ways to incorporate herbal healing into her daily routine. Elizabeth moved back to the Chicagoland area in 2017 and has since perfected herbal remedies and formulas utilizing the most nourishing ingredients to keep the skin healthy and refreshed. She currently lives in Highland Park with her partner, Andrew.
